19 Weeks and counting....

The baby is about the size of a large heirloom tomato! Weighing 8.5 oz and 6 in. Next week we get to be the size of a banana! February 4 is the day we find out if Cooper is going to have a baby sister or baby brother!! Last night David got right up to my belly and started talking to the baby and no sooner did he get the first syllable out when the baby totally kicked him in the face! Well, it wasn't as noticeable to David on the outside, but I sure felt it on the inside!!

First Haircut January 10, 2009

It was time. As much as I hated to admit it, Cooper needed a haircut. It had just gotten too long- it was in his eyes, he had wings on the sides and it was almost to the point of a small ponytail in the back. It would have been different if he had had curls, but his hair at this point is still very straight, and needed to be cut. So, Gigi and I were off to the mall in Athens for his first haircut. He did surprisingly well- it did take the two of us to distract him, but in the end everything went smoothly! He started out sitting in the high chair by himself, but soon needed Mommy to keep him corralled. He thought that the electric razor was the most fun, and proceeded to take the comb from the sytlist and gnaw on it. The end result was fabulous!

The Mother of All Posts

So, clearly I took a brief sabbatical from blogging during the fall. A lot of interesting things were happening in the Wells household! After much prodding from friends and relatives, I will now catch you up on the last three or so months of our lives!

When last we blogged, Cooper had turned into tailgater extraordinaire and was crawling and pulling up on almost anything he could find. His favorite activity, and still to this day, is getting into the cabinets and playing the symbols with the pot lids.


We ventured out to the pumpkin patch in Watkinsville to pick out Cooper's very first pumpkin. He was more concerned with trying to eat them than anything else!










Halloween was a fun time for us. Cooper was a pumpkin and had a party at his then daycare and a party at his friend Junah's house. He played so well with the other kids and liked going from house to house and listening to people tell him what a cute 'punkin' he was!

It was around this time that David and I found out that we would have a new addition to our family in June! A baby (sex yet to be determined) will be making its arrival around June 22nd. To answer your questions: yes we know what causes it, yes we wanted another child and no we are not crazy. It was a good thing that Cooper started to walk also during this time- he is getting ready to get out of the way for a little sister or brother!




Cooper did really well with walking. He started taking his first brave little steps at daycare and then David and I worked with him at home at night. After a few days he was completely independent! Having him walk in shoes was a different story- he did fine, but it was like a cat walking on wet grass at first- just a little awkward.

We took Cooper to ride the Pink Pig before Christmas at Lenox Mall. He didn't really know what was going on, but he liked looking at all of the colorful displays!







Finally, Christmas was upon us and Cooper had a nice time playing with all of the boxes that the toys came in. Kidding, he did like the boxes, but has also been steady at play with all of his new toys.











Normally I have great New Year's resolutions. Most of the time they include things like being more healthy, spending less money, etc. This year, my only goal is to survive. I recently realized that having children close in age comes naturally in my family- my grandmother had my aunt and uncle on my dad's side 10 months apart; my mom's sister had two of her kids about 16 months apart; my two cousins on my dad's side are 12 months apart. They all survived and so can we! This will be a great year for the Wells Family. We will soon find out what baby number 2 is sometime in February. We will keep you posted. Boo Boos and Black Eyes

I'm a nervous wreck. Since Cooper has started crawling and pulling up and cruising along the furniture, I am constantly worried that he is going to hit his head one too many times and end up with some sort of learning disability. Well, maybe not that, but he will have some bumps and bruises along the way. For instance, tonight, he poked himself in the eye with an object, caused a blood blister and I'm pretty sure he'll have a shiner tomorrow. I mean, how does this happen? We were right there! Perhaps it will make him look tough and the older kids at day care won't take his toys away from him.

This month has had some firsts- he had his first sinus infection and had to take antibiotics, he had his first bout with thrush and had to be on anti-fungal meds, he likely will have his first black eye, he has started moving (while standing) from one object to another without falling (most of the time) and he has gone to his first UGA tailgates. It's been a busy month, only bound to get busier. October will be a little stressful because I will have to find THE PERFECT Halloween outfit. We also have his nine month pictures made with David and I, so there is extra pressure to look beautiful for the camera.

These have been some of the best months and they are only going to get better. I can't wait for all my prego friends to experience this awesome time in their lives!!!!

3-2-1 Lift Off

It has happened. Cooper is officially a big boy. Well, not really, but he has reached a milestone and we are so excited! Cooper is crawling! It is more of a scoot-crawl; he just can't seem to get that right foot out from under his bottom, so he drags it underneath him in case he wants to sit on it. It's quite funny. He has also started a new string of sounds and words: ba ba ba, ma ma ma, and spitting. Yep, he literally spit squash out of his mouth yesterday. He is learning all of the sounds he can make with his lips and he loves to spit things out! I will post a video shortly for all to see!

Reflections

Today was filled with lots of things 'to do': David's first day of school, Cooper's 6 month doctor's visit, our wedding anniversary...a busy day to say the least.

Yes, David and I have been married for four years today. I can't believe how time flies by. Just yesterday he was picking me up for our first date to...Chilis! How sweet! It has been our favorite restaurant ever since. A lot has happened in the time that David and I have been together: we've both graduated from college, graduated from graduate programs, held our first 'real' jobs, owned a home, owned two cars, own all of the furniture in our house that was not a hand-me-down, been to many many weddings of our friends, been to some funerals, participated in four football seasons together and most of all- had a child. When I go to my ten year high school reunion next weekend, I think I'll have a lot to be proud of in my life! Not much changed from high school graduation through undergrad, but then after that it seemed as though time took off like a rocket! Where does it all go? I guess time really does fly when you're having fun! I'm looking forward to the next 70 years with David. I hope it's as fun as these last four have been! (oh, and white roses were delivered to my office this morning- gotta love that!)

Cooper went to the doc today. He is in the 65th percentile for everything- height and weight. He is 26 7/8 inches long and 19.6 pounds! Whoa hoss! And, of course, he is perfect in every way! Below is a pic of our fabulous doctor, Henry Garrard. He is THE BEST in town and we absolutely love him! David even gets excited to go see him! Cooper did very well with his shots today- he only had two and only made one yelp and was fine afterwards. Such a big boy!
